A UV varnish is a UV-light activated coating that can be applied to printed material either as a flood (covering the entire side) or a Spot UV.
As you can see in the picture above, when applied as a spot, the varnish is printed like a transparent ink, and then cured to provide a slightly raised, glossy coating.
This screen-applied finish creates select matt effect areas within a design. Spot matt UV is often applied to a gloss effect stock or over a gloss lamination, creating contrast in the design.
